Transport around the world – online service overview and tips

Here is the list of online services I use for buying various tickets. You can view transportation prices and use these websites to buy tickets.

Buses, trains, ridesharing

Omio – land transport in Europe

Omio is a popular and powerful transport search engine in Europe. The website will provide you with all possible options for traveling between given cities: by bus, by train, by plane, or riding a car from Blablacar. You can choose the best price. This service is also convenient for buying tickets. The system will provide you with the details of the selected trip: route, information on transfers, and the final price. If you want to buy a ticket, the system will redirect you to the official website of the transport company.

Don’t forget one important rule: the earlier you make a reservation, the cheaper it will actually cost. I recommend using Omio to search for land transport in Europe.

Car, motorbike, bike rental

BikesBooking – bicycle and motorcycle rental

It is a rather interesting service. You can pre-book a bike or motorcycle while traveling around various cities and countries. There is no need to look for local rental companies. All services on one website.

Taxi around the city and to the airport

Uber taxi around the world

While traveling, use this international taxi cab hailing service for convenient rides. If you aren’t registered yet, I suggest you to sign in (you’ll get a slight discount for the first 3 trips).

Uber rides are usually cheaper than going by taxi. And the best part is that taxi drivers won’t drive up prices, because the price is calculated automatically by the system in advance.

The system works well in many countries around the world including Thailand, Vietnam, China, India, etc.

Airport transfer from Kiwitaxi

Kiwitaxi is an international system for finding and booking car transfers.

You can pre-book a ride from the airport to the hotel by indicating your flight number and hotel address. Thus, you won’t need to worry about other means of transport when you arrive at the airport.

A Kiwitaxi representative with a sign will meet you in the arrival hall and help you with your bags. The service certainly has a number of significant advantages that can save time and effort.

Rentalcars – car rental

You can compare prices and rent a car through Rentalcars.com car booking service. It is one of the world’s largest car rental companies. Please note that Rentalcars doesn’t rent cars itself, but finds the best offers from various rental companies: Herts, Avis, Europcar, Alamo, Budget, National, Dollar, Trifty, etc.

There is no need to visit the websites of rental companies, because you can get all the offers at once. The system allows you to compare prices, choose a company and book a suitable car model by paying with a credit card. When booking, prices are often lower than in the case of a direct car rental from a supplier.

Air travel

To find the best price for an airline flight, I usually use air ticket search engines (aggregators). Such websites search through various agencies and airlines. As a result, we get a selection of all possible flights between given cities. Next, select the appropriate options, go to airline websites and check prices. Then you can book a suitable ticket. Here are some tips:

  • Try changing dates. A little later or earlier may be much cheaper.
  • Go to official airline websites and compare prices.
  • If you’ve found a ticket at a reasonable price, don’t wait for too long. It may happen that the tickets will be sold in a week.
  • If you cannot find a suitable price, try changing your arrival city to a nearby one. For example, Barcelona – Girona, or even Vienna – Bratislava. The result may surprise you greatly.
  • When buying a ticket, pay attention to such details as transfer time, arrival or departure time. Comfortable seats are usually more expensive than cheap ones. Don’t forget that you may be very tired. That’s why I gave up buying the cheapest tickets some time ago.
  • When choosing a lowcoster (low-cost airline), remember that the final price doesn’t include fees for checked baggage, meals, and seat selection. Carefully read what else you need to pay for.
  • Also, pay attention to the information on departure and arrival airports and how much it costs to get to them. These are usually remote lowcosters.

Aviasales Search Engine

Is one of the first flight search services. I usually use it for buying airline tickets. Aviaseles is also searching through low-cost airlines, such as Rynair, AirAsia, etc.

Aviasales provides interesting tools:

Flixbus – Cheap buses in Europe

The lowest prices for bus travel across Europe from the German bus company. You just need to pre-purchase tickets on the website. Comfortable buses with free Wi-Fi. I usually use Flixbus to travel around Europe if I go without a car.

BlaBlaCar – ridesharing

BlaBlaCar is a popular ridesharing service, where drivers publish their announcements about long-distance trips to pick up fellow passengers. The passengers pay part of the cost of fuel, thus allowing the driver to save on travel costs. For a passenger, such kind of trip is cheaper than traveling by train or by bus.
